The goal of Iron Workers Local #28 and Iron Workers International is to produce the safest most knowledgeable work force in North America. In order to Achieve this goal Iron Workers Local #28 has an accredited apprenticeship program that is second to none. With facilities in Richmond and Roanoke, we are able to accommodate apprentices across the state. In October of 2013 Iron Workers Local #28 became an Ironworker Apprenticeship Certification Program (IACP) accredited facility. In March of 2014, Iron Workers Local #28 became an Accredited Test Facility with the Ironworkers Welding Certification Program of North America.
Our apprentices train for all aspects of ironwork. We have Structural, Architectural and Ornamental, Reinforcing, Metal Building Systems, and Welding. Apprentices also learn how to read Blueprints. We include instruction on certification for Qualified Riggers and Qualified Crane Signalman. We educate them on the History of the Iron Workers Union and COMET, which is about organizing. All of our apprentices receive industry standard OSHA training to include, OSHA 10 and Subpart R. We use the most current standards and methods for all of our curriculum, with up to date manuals and literature.
Our qualified staff has over 100 years of combined experience and specialized training to keep up with today’s needs. We want to provide our Contractors with the best and brightest apprentices in the country.
